Review:
I am not usually a massive fan of ChickLit but, I have to admit, I was not completely put of this book. I thought this was quite a nice easy read as was fairly short and the pace was slow and relaxed.
I particularly liked the main character, Lexi, as she was very relatable, headstrong and determined. She did get annoying at times though. I mean, one minute she likes one person and then the minute she is in love with another person?! And the major plot twist half-way though the book?- I am sure any sane human being would be horrified with that situation, yet Lexi seems to take it in her stride and does not seem remotely distraught... I therefore feel that the characterisation of her could have been more developed.
However, she is still a loveable character and a good ChickLit protagonist.
I also felt that it was, at times, too predictable and there was not enough drama. I understand that the bizarre events where meant to add some sort of disruption to the plot; but I felt that it was not enough. It felt to me like a dreary episode of Emmerdale more than anything else...
The ending is a bit soppy and cheesey (and I hate soppy and cheesey), but I thought it concluded the story nicely and brought a sense of closure to the main characters.
Rating: 5/10. A good, predictable piece of ChickLit perfect to read on a sunny beach somewhere in Spain.
