Review:
I was really looking forward to reading Bridget Jones's Diary, as I absolutely love the film! (Here I am basing a book on the film... again!)

However, it soon became apparent that the book was nothing like the film! The book is full of so much more quirky stories, non-sense ramblings and extreme detail. All these things help to bring across what an absolute nutter Jones is and makes you really empathise and connect with her when things go wrong... and they go wrong a lot!

What I think makes this book such a classic of the chicklit genre is that Fielding has expressed the inner thoughts of a single female like no writer has done before. I think nearly all women could agree that, at some point or another, they have thought the things Jones's writes about in her diary but have not had the courage to say to their friends. I think this is aided by the format Fielding has chosen (diary entries) as it makes you, as a reader, feel connected to the protagonist and makes you feel as though you are a combined consensus talking to each other as friends. This, I believe, is what makes this such an engaging, engrossing and humorous read.

However, I did find one fault with it. In my opinion, some of the diary entries are a bit repetitive. This therefore makes it feels a though the plot is not progressing and you are going round in circles a bit!

Rating: 9/10. Classic romance novel with a twist!
