Review:
This book is probably the most challenging book I have read in a long time, for many reasons.

Firstly, it is unnecessarily long. The paperback, coming in a just over eight hundred pages, is like a paperweight and actually broke my bag because it was so heavy! I feel that a lot of the plot could have been cut and was unnecessary to the story-line.

Secondly, the pace was all wrong. At first it was really exciting and intriguing, then it got boring and then exciting and then boring again. This carried on again and again for over eight hundred pages and was really tiring, especially when your 'to read' pile of books is constantly growing! However, even though it was long winded, the characters and your desire to find out the ultimate end of the plot keeps you going.

Thirdly, what was with the ending?! With such a challenging book that covers themes of drugs, criminal activity and unfulfilled love, you would expect some fantastic and dramatic ending... but, no. The plot just kind of fizzles out and dies.

However, despite all the bad points the characters are lovable (some of them!) and you feel as though you really get to see them grow up from young children to mature adults, which is nice.

Review: 6/10.
