Review:
The Walking Dead is my all-time favourite TV series, so when I was given this from my boyfriend - I was pretty excited and could not wait to start reading it.
I have to admit, the Governor is not a character I particularly like - he is mean, egotistical and, lets face it, a bit of a sociopath! However, this book really showed a different side to the character and how much he has been through.
The book itself, takes place before you are introduced to him in the TV series and is the perfect origin and background information story to accompany the series. I feel this worked really well for this particular character as in the series he is very mysterious.
The joint authorship between Kirkman, the original writer of The Walking Dead, and Bonansinga worked really well and they have managed to pull of a very successful plot and storyline. I particularly liked the plot as it was fast paced and gory and matched the feel and tone of the TV series perfectly. I also liked how it linked in with the TV series by incorporating minor details throughout. This was a really nice touch. However, I found it really hard to not compare it to the TV series and die-hard fans may be a bit peeved at the ending (no spoilers, I promise!).
Rating: 8/10. The perfect read for Walking Dead fans who want more!
