Review:
After reading Looking for Alaska (another John Green book - read my review here) I decided to give another one of Green's book a go. Unfortunately, it was An Abundance of Katherines, which I did not particularly like for a number of reasons.
I found the characters, whilst comical, were quite hard to actually like, especially the main character, Colin. I do not know what it was about him that I did not like - maybe it was his ego and his needy desire to be famous that annoyed me, but as far as main characters go, in my opinion, he was pretty poor and one-dimensional.
The plot is an interesting one, but the continued reference to maths got on my nerves a lot. I hate maths. However, I guess this is what make this book so unique and different. I did, however, like the fact Green actually got a friend of his who studies maths to help out and make the theorem actually mathematically correct. If this interests you, you should give reading the appendix at the back of the book a read. This went straight over my head though - so much for a B grade GCSE in maths!
I really struggled to get into the book, and I felt that the story-line only really got good towards the end. Then, in my opinion, it ended all too suddenly and quickly with no real explanation.
Rating: 5/10. If you like John Green you might as well give it a read.
