Review:
I randomly stumbled upon this book after hearing about Tim Burton's film adaption, and I am so glad I decided to order it and give it a chance! It is excellent and the first seriously good book I have read in a long time.
There is lots I love about this book; the plot and whole idea is excellent, the no nonsense writing style is intriguing and the weird black and white photographs throughout the book, which interlace with the plot, are so unique and engaging! The archived photos especially are my favourite aspect of the book as what other author has thought to do this?!
Whilst, in my opinion, the characters are nothing special; you see the protagonist, Jacob, really develop and demonstrate depth as a character. However, I feel that not enough attention were paid to the other characters which were quite important to the plot and their personalities and backgrounds could have been expanded on. However, I feel we may get to know the other characters more, especially Miss Peregrine, in the sequel.
Nonetheless, this is a very good first book by Riggs, and I cannot believe that I had not read it sooner and that it is not that well known!
Rating: 10/10. It is so nice to write a positive review for once...
