Author: Ben Aaronovitch
Publisher: Gollancz
Release Date: 13th November 2014
Genre: Young Adult, Sci-fi
Summary:
Peter Grant is back for the fifth installment in the Rivers of London series, in which we find him venturing out of the smog of London to rural Herefordshire to investigate the disappearance of two young girls.
At first it seems that Peter's magical abilities are not required, but upon further investigation a history of mysterious events have led up to present day and Peter steps in to bring order to the countryside.
Review:
I absolutely loved the first three installments of the River of London series (my review of the first book, Rivers of London, can be found here) but then as the series progressed and I read the fourth installment, Broken Homes (read my review here) it started to leave a sour taste in my mouth and, in my opinion, the series has gone downhill.
But would I read the latest book? Well, I honestly just wanted to read a bit of young adult fiction which did not actually require me to think too much and I was not disappointed!
Whilst my previous issues with the other books in the series are still present, like long plots which drag out, I felt that Foxglove Summer has actually redeemed the previous book slightly. I mean the book was not amazing - but the plot line was interesting, the characters are progressing (if somewhat slowly) and it was full of action and clever thinking from Peter Grant. So all-in-all a nice piece of young adult fiction!
Rating: 6/10. Slight improvement on previous book in series...
