Review:
After months of begging, my best friend finally persuaded me to read the Alex Cross series by James Patterson and I am so glad I did!
Along Came a Spider is Patterson's first book in the series and, is by far the best! It keeps you on the edge of your seat right until the very end and is expertly written! His writing style allows you to engage with Cross and, at points, sympathise with him as you gain an insight into working as a detective and the hardships experienced.
One of my favourite aspects of his writing is that the vivid (and sometimes very gruesome!!) descriptions of the crime scenes allow you to use your imagination; aiding the readers experience and engagement with the story.
Along Came a Spider sets the bar for the Alex Cross series; a standard which is set so high the rest of the series does not even come close! You will never get a criminal mastermind as crazy, complex and scary as Soneji.
Rating: 10/10. If you are thinking about watching the film instead of reading the book.. DON'T. The book is so much better!
Title: Kiss the Grils
Summary:
Following the disappearance of his niece, Naomi, Cross uncovers a chain suspicious disappearances in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. There is only one common denominator; they are all successful, beautiful women.Will Cross be able to bring Naomi safely home?
Review:
Kiss the Girls continues with very much the same formula as Along Came a Spider;
Patterson's gruesome writing style is present throughout which, again, engages the readers imagination and keeps them on the edge of their seat (Lets just say I will never look at snakes the same way again...).
In my opinion Kiss the Girls fails to live up to Along Came a Spider's reputation but nonetheless, it is a key text within the genre which is scary, exciting and fast paced.
Rating: 10/10.

Review:
Kiss the Girls continues with very much the same formula as Along Came a Spider;
crazy criminal + gruesome scenes + persistent and stressed detective = Alex Cross book
However, it works and Patterson has managed to bring something new to the story-line to keep the plot fresh and exciting (I was not expecting the ending!). This is something which I feel is lost in the later books in the series.
In my opinion Kiss the Girls fails to live up to Along Came a Spider's reputation but nonetheless, it is a key text within the genre which is scary, exciting and fast paced.
