Review:
I have been reading The Wolf of Wall Street for quite some time due to be very busy and not having anytime to read for pleasure. However, by reading about twenty pages a day - I finally finished it! I will, however, make this quick as I have a lot of work to do!
Everyone knows the film. It is brutal, honest and very graphic. However, what I do not think it tells is the true character of Jordon Belfort and his conflicted mind between his family, work and drugs. You really get a sense of this in this book and shows that there is more to him, and his story, than drugs, money and sex. At times I found myself sympathising with him and at times I found myself hating his guts. This is what I loved about this book - its' brutal honesty. Whilst written in a simple way; it reveals so many layers of Jordon.
Nonetheless, it does require some patience. Particularly, in the beginning as it is quite slow. Obviously, as soon as the money laundering scams are mentioned - everything picks up! This is something I found fascinating about this book, and Jordon's story, is the sheer extravagance of everything. It was amazing to see how, in my opinion, absurdly, someone actually lived and the things they got away with!
Rating: 8/10. A new layer to the well-known story.
