Review:
I have been wanting to read I Am Pilgrim for a long time and finally took the plunge and I am so glad I did! Whilst it was a very long read - not the short crime, thriller I thought it was - it was so worth it as I could not put it down! I LOVED it.
Pilgrim (if that is even his real name ;)) is a well developed character who has so many layers which have been formed over his career and life. Needless to say, his backstory is extremely well put together and you really get to know him. In the end, I felt this he was even a friends - not a character in a book! Similarly, all the characters (no spoilers!) are well put together so you understand how their motives in the plot have been influenced by their past. I also like how these relevant past events have been put in so it does not leave any room for misinterpretation. In effect, Hayes includes everything you need to completely understand the characters.

Hayes's writing style is also really easy to read. That is not to say that the plot itself is simple - far from it! - but the way in which it is cleverly written makes it the perfect summer read which is not to laborious or complicated. This is what initially puts me off crime and thriller books which are not for young adults!

I did, however, find the plot a bit predictable. This did not spoil my enjoyment of the book as there was little surprises and twists throughout that kept me guessing. I just saw some aspects coming from a mile off...

Rating: 10/10. I wish I had read it sooner!
