Review:
As someone who wants to go in to publishing in the future, I really liked this book as it offered a unique and critical perspective into the publishing industry and current trends. You could really tell that Kinsella knows the industry, and the different roles within it, like the back of her hand. This alone made it a really interesting read.
However, I am not really sure how I feel about the protagonist, Sara. Her life was just a bit too peachy perfect, in my opinion. Similarly, I feel as though she was a bit of a wallflower in the sense that her narrative voice did a bit too much talking, explaining and watching rather than actually doing anything. If she had been a bit more proactive and had more dialogue and interaction with other characters; I feel as though her character would have been more interesting, engaging and likable. In the end I just found her to be a bit of a drama queen.
I also had issues with the plot itself as, in my opinion, it moved way to fast. I mean, realistically no one falls in love in a few days! It may be just me but when authors try and incorporate these 'love at first sight' scenarios into novels; it just annoys me. I think romantic relationships between characters are best developed over time to make them more believable, sustainable and to give you the impression that when you finish the book; you know that them characters could be together forever. It also reminded me a little bit of The Devil Wears Prada, which really got on my nerves!
That said, I could not put the book down and finished it in no time at all!
